Breck: Oh My.
Mike Fink
The storm on Thursday that halted traffic for hours in Denver resulted in a four hour trek to Frisco from the airport for me. I-70 was closed within a slow 15 minute drive from the airport and I missed probably the best day of the season at Breck. I counted at least 12 trucks in ditches, I lost count after that...
I don't want to hear how bad VA drivers are. I saw big ass trucks with big ass tires with only two wheels touching the ground all over the place. Tow trucks made a killing yesterday.
I spent the awesome day on the plane and in the CME shuttle. Adding insult to injury, there was a power outage last night at midnight till 3:30pm today. It just isn't fun when you're expecting to be in town by 1pm and on the mountain to ride, and not getting there till 4pm or so.
After having dinner with Deafjam, Forrester, and Nic Drago, we met up with Connor at the City Market to discuss today's festivities. I think the highlight of the dinner was me showing Deafjam and Drago the toothpick trick. The people that have seen it are probably rolling their eyes right now.
Drago has been hard at work with organzing the Matt Wyffels fundraiser next Wednesday. We are donating a MNMNT deck designed by Donny Miller; the "I would love to be killed by a beautiful woman" in a 153cm. Come out to it next week if you are in town! It's going into it's eighth year and is a great cause to support.
Unfortunately this morning Daylight Donuts was super packed and some guy tried to cut in front of us with his family of four but Deafjam quickly put a stop to that.. Breakfast took longer than usual, but we finally made it out on a full stomach of Breck's best breakfast place. While we were waiting for Fink and Deafjam to hike up, Connor hit me square in the head with a single snowball from about 40-50 feet away on his first try. Awesome. He said it was farther away but I'm not giving him the benefit of the doubt. I do have a lump on my head now; thanks Connor!
Shay is in town and will be checking out next season's Memento Mori 158cm deck (art by Kelsey Brooks) and to follow us around as well around town. She came by earlier and is staying just down the street. We have three things planned for tomorrow so it should be an action-packed day. Speaking of fellow bloggers, Mr. Burns from South of the North posted a blog about "Supporting your Local Shop", something that is super important to our industry, now more than ever.
I think it's worthy to mention that I threw my first throwing star this afternoon. For some reason, Connor has one here and I was chucking it into the walls of their house.
Team News:
Chach placed third in the Aspen Big Air last week, and the Geisen twins went to Big Bear last week for the Trans AM contest last week. Chris Geisen made it to the finals, and are both currently back in Tahoe filming.
